About the City
Aquitaine is one of the 26 regions of France, an extensive part of south-west France with a long coastline along the Atlantic Ocean (Bay of Biscay) and a mountainous border with Spain along the Pyrenees Mountains.
City Areas
Aquitaine is one of France’s most beautiful regions. The open areas around Aquitaine have seen centuries of history, but mainly they have remained beautiful despite the medieval uproar.
Attractions
The region of Aquitaine boasts one of the largest collections of medieval castles in France. As such the traveler can go about exploring the region, knowing that it will be all worth it.
Transportation
The Aquitaine region is a major centre of communication which offers lots of transport facilities to the rest of France, and main European cities. Also the harbors of Bordeaux and Bayonne add to an excellent road network including the incontrovertible 560 km of motorways to satisfy the most demanding visitors and inhabitants.
Events
Aquitaine is a region full of life. As such events are plenty and very interesting. The leader in the “most annual events” category is of course the prefecture of the region, Bordeaux. This however does not mean that other cities, towns or villages in the region don’t fair up to the task.
History & Civilisation
Aquitaine’s history starts early with the Roman Empire and continues with the Franks. Becoming part of English rule, the region had peaked the interest of the French crown. In the 15th century, after the Hundred Years War, France annexed the region permanently, thus laying waste to any English claim.
Restaurants & Nightlife
Aquitaine boasts a wonderful cuisine, complimented by its beautiful surroundings. The dining experience is quite unique and soothing to all tastes. The nightlife experience is also something to remember, but you will find it only exists in major cities of the region.
Summer and winter in Aquitaine
Aquitaine is the best region in France for a nice relaxing vacation. Both summer and winter are great seasons to visit the region of Aquitaine as it boasts a wonderful 250 km long coastline and more than 100 km of mountains.
